The NFL trade deadline isn’t for another few weeks, but some big deals are already coming to fruition, with the Raiders at the forefront of the conversation. Yesterday, Las Vegas dealt their disgruntled star wide receiver Davante Adams to the Jets for a third-round pick, reuniting him with his former quarterback in Green Bay, Aaron Rodgers.
For Falcons fans hoping to land a star pass rusher ahead of this year’s trade deadline, a light immediately went off in their heads. Perhaps the Raiders would be dumb enough to trade Maxx Crosby too as they look ahead towards a complete rebuild.
It’s not the worst thinking in the world, given the Raiders’ track record of abysmal decision-making. Unfortunately, not even Mark Davis is idiotic enough to trade away one of the best defensive players in the league, who is still just 27-years-old.
“It’s unfortunate today, but there’s so much outside chatter that is not true,” Davis said in regard to potentially trading Maxx Crosby, via The Athletic. “It’s not coming from any sources. It’s not coming from anything. My basic thing is never to answer all that stuff because, otherwise, you get trapped in this black hole. It’s just not happening.”
Maxx Crosby is a complete game-wrecker against both the run and the pass. His presence alone would take the Falcons’ defense from an average unit to one of the best in the league. He’s a three-time Pro-Bowler, two-time All-Pro, and already has 5.5 sacks this season, which is more than the entire Falcons team combined. If there is any price that could potentially make Mark Davis reconsider trading him, Terry Fontenot should be willing to oblige, but as of today, it doesn’t seem as if the Raiders are even willing to pick up the phone.
Realistically, if the Falcons are to acquire pass rush help ahead of the trade deadline, it’s not going to come in the form of Maxx Crosby, Myles Garrett, or Micah Parsons. Those guys almost never come on the market, so expectations must be tempered.
