According to Ian Rapoport, the Falcons made quite an interesting move on Friday afternoon, inking former Minnesota kicker Matt Trickett to a three-year deal.
The news comes after the club announced three new signings, including Trickett, among others.
Given the Falcons’ specialists on the roster are already locked up long-term, this signing makes little sense. Bradley Pinion is an above-average punter and Younghoe Koo is among the best kickers in football.
More than likely, Rapoport goofed. Typically, all undrafted free agent deals are non-guaranteed three-year deals, which I assume is what Trickett’s contract is. If not, this would be one of the more peculiar moves from the Falcons.
