The Falcons lost a critical piece to their offense on Sunday when Drew Dalman went down with an ankle injury. An MRI confirmed the high ankle sprain, and the club subsequently placed him on the injured reserve, meaning he’ll miss the next four games at least.
In the wake of Dalman’s injury, the Falcons announced a flurry of roster moves on Tuesday, bringing a couple of familiar faces back to Atlanta. The club signed veteran offensive lineman Elijah Wilkinson from the practice squad to the active roster.
Wilkinson spent the 2022 campaign with the Falcons, starting nine games before an injury ended his season. Entering the league in 2017, the veteran has started 45 games, appearing in 77 of them, playing up and down the line of scrimmage.
Additionally, the Falcons signed Matt Hennessy to the practice squad. The former third-round pick started for several seasons in Atlanta after being drafted in 2020 but was eventually supplanted by Dalman. Most recently, Hennessy was with the Eagles.
The hope is that neither will end up seeing the field because that would mean more injuries to the offensive line. The Falcons slotted Ryan Neuzil in for Dalman on Sunday, and he played the rest of the game, 42 snaps.
Dalman isn’t the only injury to the line, though. Kaleb McGary also left the contest with a knee injury, but the starting right tackle was ruled day-to-day following an MRI. That’s great news, but it’s still unclear if he’ll play this weekend against the Saints. It’ll be a situation to closely monitor.
