The Falcons are gearing up for a monumental offseason.
The headlines are going to center around the quarterback position, but there are plenty of other exciting storylines.
The price tag for Kyle Pitts’ fifth-year option has emerged. A.J. Terrell needs a contract extension. The Falcons are set to have around $40 million in cap space after the league announced their figure for the 2024 season.
AND the NFL Combine is set to start on Monday. The league year will come up shortly after, and Terry Fontenot will begin signing free agents. Then before we know it, the draft will be upon us.
There’s hardly any downtime, but right now, it’s as quiet as the NFL is all year. However, we do have a bit of news for the Falcons. The team announced its first significant free agent signing, bringing long snapper Liam McCullough back on an exclusive rights free agent deal.
Over the course of the last two seasons with the Falcons, McCullough has appeared in all 34 games and will continue to snap on special teams for Younghoe Koo and Bradley Pinion.
Some might think I am embellishing when I say this is a significant move, but I can assure you I am not, and if you think so, you’re not valuing the third phase of the game enough. In the NFL, games are often won in the margins, and special teams can make or break you.
The Falcons had one of the best units in the league under Marquice Williams in 2022, but they regressed in 2023. Now, Williams is back under Raheem Morris and is expected to improve that area of the team with McCullough back in the fold.
