Ahead of the Falcons season finale, questions continue to surface regarding Arthur Smith’s job security.
Wins and losses seemingly aren’t the deciding factor for Arthur Blank because the club is on track for another 7-10 finish. It feels more arbitrary than that. Blank said in an interview that he’ll evaluate the situation after the season, and I believe the temperature around Flowery Branch has a lot to do with Smith’s fate.
So long as the locker room doesn’t experience a sort of mutiny, Smith would likely be brought back, and there hasn’t been even a whisper of internal turmoil… before Sunday’s outing in Chicago.
The Falcons put up another stinker against the Bears, and Cordarrelle Patterson took to Twitter to voice his frustrations. Fans, as they do, overreacted to the veteran’s public displeasure with his role because Arthur Smith addressed the situation and made it seem trivial.
Today, that was confirmed. Following Thursday’s practice, Taylor Heinicke voiced his support for his head coach, including the feelings of the rest of the team.
“I think it starts with Art. He loves football, he loves to coach and like I’ve said before, if we were 2-14, I think we would still have the same energy.”
Taylor Heinicke credited Atlanta's focused & high-character locker room to Arthur Smith:
"I think it starts with Art. He loves football, he loves to coach and like I've said before, if we were 2-14, I think we would still have the same energy."

That kind of praise is what’s going to keep Arthur Smith around Atlanta. Arthur Blank has his thumb on the organization; he knows the pulse of it. If the people inside the building haven’t wavered in their support of the head coach, it seems extremely likely that he will return in 2024.
