This is one of the first times I have seen the Falcons land Broderick Jones in a mock draft. Mike Tannenbaum’s The 33rd Team has Atlanta replacing Kaleb McGary, who leaves in free agency, with the Georgia Bulldogs’ product.
8. Atlanta Falcons: Broderick Jones, OT, Georgia
The Atlanta Falcons will lose Kaleb McGary in free agency, so they pick the top offensive lineman in the draft in Jones (scouting report).
Kaleb McGary is the most pressing free agent decision the Falcons have in front of them this offseason. He plays a premium position and is coming off the best season of his career. It’s a difficult dilemma for Atlanta. McGary transformed himself into a menacing run blocker and an average but reliable pass blocker. In Arthur Smith’s offense, he turned in an excellent campaign.
There’s always a chance the Falcons will replace him with a rookie, though. Broderick Jones and Paris Johnson Jr. are two intriguing prospects. I honestly wouldn’t mind the scenario where either Jones or Johnson replaced McGary, preferably the National Champion Georgia Bulldog.
He possesses the quintessential combination of size and athleticism to thrive as an NFL tackle. Jones is a reliable blocker in both the run and pass game. He also plays with a mean streak. He checks all the boxes, and I would love it if the Falcons drafted him.
