James Carpenter received the first start of the season at left guard, and according to Dan Quinn, delivered one of the best performances in his two seasons with the team.
Dan Quinn said James Carpenter played one of his better games since joining the team. Team is still planning to rotate Carpenter and Matt Hennessy at LG against the Cowboys.

That isn’t saying too much. Carpenter joined the Falcons in the 2019 offseason and received an abysmal 45.3 grade in 675 offensive snaps last year. However, he did post a much more respectable 67.8 grade yesterday, which should result in him receiving the bulk of the snaps again in Week 2.
According to PFF, Hennessy did play 18 snaps last Sunday and also performed pretty well, receiving a grade of 57.5. Given he missed most of practice last week with an injury, I expect him to have a much more substantial role against the Cowboys. It may not be a 50/50 split but look for something in the 65/35 range in favor of Carpenter. I still feel that Hennessy will eventually take over the role as the starting left guard sooner rather than later, but it’s encouraging to see both guys performing well early on.
