The Falcons got an ugly win in Week 3 against the Giants, but I’ll take an ugly win over a pretty loss any day of the week. Atlanta’s offensive line was a big part of that, and according to some measurables, Jalen Mayfield played as well as anyone along the Falcons front.
Top-5 #Falcons PFF Offensive Grades vs. Giants (Week 3)
1. RG Chris Lindstrom – 80.6
2. TE Lee Smith – 78.4
3. RB Mike Davis – 75.8
4. LG Jalen Mayfield – 73.2
5. RB Cordarrelle Patterson – 72.1— Evan Birchfield (@EvanBirchfield) September 27, 2021
On the defensive side, Dante Fowler Jr. continues to be the best pass rusher on the team, according to PFF.
His pass rushing grade has ranked him 15th -> 1st -> 1st on the #Falcons

With one game remaining, #Falcons Jalen Mayfield is currently the NFL’s 11th graded pass blocker and 10th graded run blocker among LGs for Week 3.

As you can see, Mayfield was a little bit better than league average, but it’s a far cry from the beatings he took in Week 1 and Week 2. A lot of the fanbase had already turned on Mayfield, but Arthur Smith gave him a vote of confidence, and Mayfield took advantage. It certainly helps he isn’t facing Fletcher Cox, Vita Vea, or Ndamukong Suh this week. I’m not sure if this is a sign of things to come for Mayfield in 2021, but hopefully, he can become that starter-level left guard the Falcons hoped they were getting with a third-round pick.
