Falcons injury updates on Troy Andersen, Matthew Bergeron

Atlanta Falcons injuries

The Falcons are coming off their worst performance of the season, a 34-14 loss to the Seahawks at home, one that was eye-opening in more ways than one.

The defense has a lot more flaws than most people wanted to acknowledge after the first six weeks. The pass rush has been the primary talking point, but the linebacker play has also been extremely underwhelming against both the run and the pass. This is a Falcons defense that desperately misses starting linebacker Troy Andersen, who has been out since the team’s week four contest against the Saints with a knee injury.

The good news: Raheem Morris says Andersen will test out the knee at practice tomorrow, hopefully signaling a return is near.

Morris also updated us on the Falcons injuries sustained in Sunday’s game against the Seahawks, Most notably, starting left guard Matthew Bergeron left the game with a neck injury and did not return. Thankfully, Morris says Bergeron, along with Ryan Neuzil and James Smith-Williams, should be okay.

The Falcons offensive line has been banged up for much of the season. Starting center Drew Dalman has been out for several weeks, and Kaleb McGary also missed some time. For the most part, this is a unit that has still been very good, but the injury to Bergeron clearly had a negative effect on the group. Hopefully, he’s able to go this Sunday as the Falcons travel to Tampa Bay for a critical clash with the Bucs, which will determine who sits atop the NFC South.
