After announcing their initial 53 man roster yesterday, the Falcons added a few key guys who just missed the cut to the practice squad. Jalen Mayfield is not among them.
Our initial practice squad additions are in

The Falcons already signed Isaiah Prince as a swing tackle, but even before that, Mayfield’s chances of making the practice squad seemed grim. He was one of the earlier cuts from the final preseason game, and it’s clear he fell out of favor with the coaching staff. A lot of names that were surprise cuts were thankfully kept around at Flowery Branch.
Offense:
RB Godwin Igwebuike
WR Matthew Sexton
WR Xavier Malone
TE Parker Hesse
TE Tucker Fisk
OL Justin Shaffer
OL Tyler Vrabel
OL Barry Wesley
Defense:
DL Timmy Horne
DL LaCale London
DL Kemoko Turay
LB Andre Smith
DB Micah Abernathy
DB Natrone Brooks
I am happy to see Timmy Horne and Micah Abernathy stick around, they were two guys who were semi-surprising cuts. Darren Hall, another player picked in the 2021 draft, was not among the defensive backs on the practice squad. On the offensive side of the ball, Godwin Igwebuike and Parker Hesse were obvious choices to keep around. 2022 draft pick Justin Shaffer is back as well. A lot of this could change in the coming days, but I doubt we see Mayfield or Hall added anytime soon.
