The Falcons might be the new Bears of the south because Atlanta has shown interest in or signed just about every Chicago free agent on the market. The organization clearly trusts the people inside the building. When Arthur Smith was filling out his staff last spring, the first-time head coach hired Dave Ragone and Charles London, which resulted in multiple free agent signings due to their relationships from Chicago. The most notable being Cordarrelle Patterson, who had a career year in 2021.
Then, this offseason, Terry Fontenot added Ryan Pace, the former Bears GM, to the front office. It seems Pace has Fontenot’s ear because the Falcons signed two free agents that played for the Bears last season — Teez Tabor and Elijah Wilkerson. Then turned around and signed running back Damien Williams, who also spent 2021 in Chicago. But that’s not all.
Atlanta hosted offensive lineman Germain Ifedi, who spent the last two seasons in Chicago, last week. Now, the Falcons are hosting yet another Bears free agent in wide receiver Damiere Byrd.
The Falcons hosted WR Damiere Byrd on a free agent visit. He recently visited the Raiders as well. The speedy wideout spent last year with the Bears.

Byrd proved to be a reliable option for the Bars as a depth receiver but nothing more. On 38 targets, Byrd hauled in 26 receptions for 329 yards and one touchdown.
He had a few glimpses this past year, including the game-winning two-point conversion against the Seahawks. Byrd didn’t provide too much contribution in the third phase of the game in Chicago, and as a depth piece, you have to be able to make a difference on special teams.
