The Falcons had a circus of a head coaching search, one that many expected to end with Bill Belichick in Atlanta but rather arrived at an improbable destination with Raheem Morris being hired.
Arthur Blank and the search committee cast a wide net into the pool of candidates, interviewing more than a dozen prospective head coaches. It covered a wide range of profiles too.
Some had extensive experience like Belichick and Jim Harbaugh. Others were first-time head coaches like Ben Johnson and Bobby Slowik. There were defensive coordinators, offensive coordinators, and just assistants. Some were expected to call plays while others would assume a CEO-type role.
However, every single candidate had the same thing to say about the Falcons quarterback situation. Blank said there wasn’t a single candidate he spoke to that didn’t define it as “something that needs work.”
It’s hilarious to see some Falcons fans still hurt by Arthur Smith that believe Desmond Ridder can be salvaged by Zac Robinson and Raheem Morris, despite the owner acknowledging the exact opposite.
“It’s very clear to everybody — all of our fans, all of you, anybody throughout the NFL — is that this is a position that we need to figure out how we’re going to get better in 2024 and beyond that as well, whether that be trades, free agency, the draft, whatever it may be,” Blank said.Â
The Falcons will have every option on the table this offseason. Whether that be through a trade, the draft or in free agency, the city will welcome a new signal caller to the team.
“I think that’s a good football team down there that needs to solidify the quarterback position, which I think they’ll do this offseason, and I’m rooting for them,” Matt Ryan said.
Many would describe the Falcons team as a quarterback away or a talented, yet underachieving roster. It’s now time to finally take a shot at the position.
