Falcons have become the NFC South’s punching bag once again

Falcons Raheem Morris on NFL Trade Deadline

Coming into the Falcons‘ Week 10 contest in New Orleans, Raheem Morris’ team was riding high with a 6-3 record and a stranglehold on the division.

Finally, the club was tracking back up the NFC South mountain, laughing at the Saints and Buccaneers. The Falcons, once riding high, are now the butt of the joke once again.

Atlanta lost to New Orleans by way of three missed field goals and a Kirk Cousins interception. Then, they followed it up with the worst loss of the season in Denver as the Broncos topped the Falcons 38-6.

It’s sparked confidence among division rivals now. On NBC’s Football Night in America, Mike Florio told viewers that he had talked to Baker Mayfield and asked if the Falcons’ devastating loss to the Broncos was “the moment” he realized, ‘Hey, we can take this division.’

Mayfield’s response? “Absolutely,” per Florio, via JoeBucsFan.com

Before that, Tyrann Mathieu sat down with Kay Adams, and she asked him about how his interception against the Falcon could change the course of the season, and he said he relished the moment.

“Anytime you make those type of plays in those types of rivalry games. That’s the type of plays you dream of as a defender. The Falcons have been pretty good to me,” Mathieu told Adams with a smirk.

In six games against the Falcons, Mathieu has notched five turnovers, four interceptions and a recovered fumble, in six games.

While Atlanta still controls their own destiny and can immediately write the ship with a win over the Chargers, it doesn’t change the feeling around Flowery Branch, and that is… the same old Atlanta Falcons.
