Not even 12 hours after the Falcons released him, Grady Jarrett has found a new home. According to Adam Schefter, the veteran defensive tackle has inked a three-year deal worth $43.5 million, including $28.5 million fully guaranteed, with the Bears.
According to Marc Raimondi, the Falcons tried to work out a new deal with Grady Jarrett before he was ultimately released, which followed a report from Zach Klein during the NFL Combine that he expected the two sides to work out a new deal.
Most recently, Jeremy Fowler reported that the Falcons offered a reduced deal, but Jarrett felt more confident in his market value than what they offered, and he was clearly correct in thinking so.
Jarrett had a cap hit north of $20 million this season, and the Falcons saved over $16 million against this year’s cap by releasing him. But now, he gets just south of $15 million per season with more than 65% of his contract fully guaranteed.
It was kind of a no-brainer for Jarrett, who joins his former teammate, Drew Dalman, in Chicago with former top overall pick Caleb Williams and the hottest head coach candidate of the hiring cycle in Ben Johnson.
Jarrett will be coached by Dennis Allen, who is Chicago’s defensive coordinator. Allen is intimately familiar with Jarrett as the two faced off in the NFC South for nearly a decade.
Best of luck to Grady Jarrett in the next chapter of his career.
