The Falcons are in a position to grab a real difference-maker with the 8th pick in April’s NFL draft, but they also have three other picks in the top 100. Atlanta will have an excellent opportunity to bolster many of their roster’s needs.
In Pro Football Focus’s latest mock draft, Austin Gayle has the Dirty Birds selecting one of the best prospects in the draft, regardless of position, but also Matt Ryan‘s successor in the second round.
Favorite landing spots in my two-round mock draft for @PFF:
14. Ravens: CB Ahmad Gardner
17. Chargers: WR Jameson Williams
23. Cardinals: C Tyler Linderbaum39. Bears: IOL Zion Johnson
41. Packers: ED DeMarvin Leal
52. Steelers: CB Kyler Gordonhttps://t.co/55HJZW9oNI— Austin Gayle (@PFF_AustinGayle) February 21, 2022
This is what Gayle said about the Falcons selecting Kyle Hamilton with their first-round pick:
Safety isn’t a premium position, and it is relatively low on the positional value chart because of it, but Kyle Hamilton is different. At 6-foot-4, 220 pounds, the Notre Dame star legitimately has all of the sideline-to-sideline range, size and ball skills to be a game-changer, regardless of scheme or role at the next level.
Gayle also slots the Falcons taking Kenny Pickett as the heir to Matt Ryan with the 40th pick. Many draft pundits have Pickett as the top-ranked quarterback prospect in this class, so getting him here could be great value. The Falcons need to start thinking about a future without Matt Ryan, so this could be the first step towards that possibility.
