Falcons Free Agent Targets 2023: Matt Ioannidis
The Falcons are going to add to the defensive front, and Ioannidis is an attractive target. The fifth-round pick spent six seasons in Washington before signing a one-year deal with the Panthers. His best season came in 2019 when he recorded 64 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, and 8.5 sacks.
Ioannidis is approaching 30 years old, so the timelines somewhat match up. Moreover, he shouldn’t break the bank. Brad Spielberger projects a two-year, $13 million deal for him and had this to say:
“Ioannidis has missed time here and there in recent seasons with injuries, but heās been a consistently strong pass-rusher from the interior, earning pass-rush grades of 69.1 or better in each of the last six seasons with a pressure rate around 10% in each of the last two. He can help a lot of teams make things tough on opposing quarterbacks.”
The Falcons could use a player like Matt Ioannidis to join the interior rotation of Grady Jarrett and Ta’Quon Graham. Atlanta’s pass rush will be a focus this offseason, and this signing directly addresses that issue.
