Misery loves company, and Falcons fans are welcoming Cowboys fans with open arms following Dallas’ embarrassing loss to the Packers thanks, in part, to a complete defensive meltdown, coordinated by Dan Quinn.
Much of the blame will be placed at the feet of Mike McCarthy and Dak Prescott. Rightfully so, the pair deserve to be heavily scrutinized for their part in the blowout loss, but the defense is more culpable than either McCarthy and Prescott.
Jordan Love and the Packers offense scored six touchdowns on their first seven drives. Love was 16-of-21 for 272 yards and three touchdowns, looking like a seasoned veteran and not a first-year starter making his postseason debut. Aaron Jones also rushed for three touchdowns and 118 yards.
Even without the pick-six thrown by Prescott, the Packers put up 41 offensive points, which is the second most points the Cowboys have ever allowed under Dan Quinn and the most at home.
Falcons fans know all too well what Cowboys fans are feeling. Though Matt Ryan and Kyle Shanahan get a lot of blame for Atlanta’s Super Bowl collapse against New England, it was Dan Quinn’s defense that surrendered a 25-point lead to Tom Brady and the Patriots offense.
Green Bay only ran 54 offensive plays, averaging 0.76 offensive points per play… that’s absolutely insane. They converted six of nine third-down opportunities in those first seven drives and were perfect when they got into the red zone.
With questions surrounding Mike McCarthy’s job security in Dallas, it seems the former Falcons head coach is still being heavily pursued by teams with vacancies, according to FOX Sports NFL insider Jay Glazer.
“Dan Quinn is already on the list for four other teams,” Glazer said on the FOX NFL postgame show Sunday. “I still think Dan will still be a hot candidate around the league regardless. He’ll still be up there despite this one game.”
Dan Quinn is a great leader of men, but this collapse is a microcosm of his time in Atlanta. One game shouldn’t be held against anyone; however, I’m not sure how you could ignore this.
