It’s not a victory Friday for Falcons fans, but it’s the next best thing — laughing at the Saints on this beautiful fall Friday in Atlanta.
On Thursday Night Football, in front of their home crowd and America, the Saints pissed down their leg and embarrassed themselves. New Orleans entered the contest on a four-game losing streak, with several key players on the sideline with injuries, including Derek Carr. It was always going to be a tough game for the Saints, but what they did was even shocking to Falcons fans.
The Broncos ran the Saints out of their own building. On the night that Drew Brees was inducted into the franchise’s Hall of Fame, the most despised man in New Orleans, Sean Payton, came back to town and put a 33-10 thrashing on the black and gold. It’s not victory Friday, but it’s pretty damn close for Falcons fans.
To make matters worse for the Saints and their smelly fan base, their only hope, Derek Carr, was laughing and smiling on the sideline late in the fourth quarter, enraging fans even more than they already were. They also made some history.
According to CBS Sports, the Saints joined the 1965 Cowboys as the only team to open the season with two wins by 20 points or more, only to follow it with a five-game losing streak.
Now, the Falcons’ rivals sit at 2-5 with no end in sight. Dennis Allen should’ve been fired last offseason; they should’ve never signed Derek Carr and continued to kick the financial can down the road with an aging roster. Hell, Mickey Loomis is complicit in all of this and should be relieved of his duties as well.
The fact is the Falcons’ most hated rivals have no easy solution. They’re staring down the barrel of a multi-year rebuild. It is one that will completely destroy the franchise for years and is seemingly the only route they can take. Rejoice Falcons fans; it’s the era of brown bags over their faces in New Orleans.
