Falcons expected to be “aggressive” in trading up in NFL Draft

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: OCT 07 Syracuse at North Carolina

The Falcons are expected to be aggressive in their pursuit of a quarterback this offseason, which isn’t too big of a surprise, but some new information has come to light.

Not only will the club be aggressive in their pursuit of a quarterback, but that attitude will continue in the draft. Steve Wyche and Daniel Jeremiah believe Terry Fontenot will be aggressive in trading up the board of the NFL draft.

The dream for many Falcons fans is for Terry Fontenot to somehow make a move up the draft board for one of Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye or Caleb Williams.

Acquiring a franchise quarterback through the draft is the most practical way to find one and by far the most preferable. A rookie quarterback contract is the single most valuable thing in this sport.

A competent signal caller on his first deal would enable Fontenot to spend gobs of cash elsewhere on the roster. The Falcons would be able to build an elite defense as well as surround the quarterback with an elite supporting cast on the offensive side of the ball. It’s a proven track record.

However, the likelihood of the Bears, Commanders, or Patriots coming off their selections isn’t great. Each club needs a new quarterback. Daniels, Maye, and Williams are clearly the top three prospects at their position.

On the off chance that Chicago, Washington, or New England gets cold feet, Atlanta’s brass has to force the issue. There shouldn’t be any cat-and-mouse games. With Arthur Blank’s blessing, Terry Fontenot should move heaven and earth to secure one of those picks, regardless of the price.

I’m not being hyperbolic. Literally, whatever the price is, the Falcons should cough it up. Three first-round picks along with a few Day 2 selections and a marquee player like Kyle Pitts or A.J. Terrell should be on the table.

The Falcons are expected to be aggressive. I hope these reports are accurate.
