According to Matt Miller of ESPN, the Falcons have their sights on two quarterbacks going into the draft:
The #Falcons "dream scenario" for the 2023 Draft would be to pick Bryce Young or CJ Stroud, source tells @nfldraftscout
The source told Miller that the team is comfortable with Desmond Ridder and will only pick a QB in the top 10 if its Young or Stroud. They currently pick at #8 pic.twitter.com/Bk8R87GmV1

Now, I don’t think Bryce Young gets past pick one, so that is out of the equation. I think CJ Stroud could tumble, and I wouldn’t be too surprised if he was available with the 8th pick. There’s three lines of thinking with this report coming out:
- This is a smokescreen, and the Falcons want someone to make a trade up to push a player down the board, or move out of the 8th spot themselves. They could also be in on a different quarterback and are creating a diversion.
- They truly want Stroud, and I think they could get him.
- They’re open to trading up
The Falcons have given Desmond Ridder multiple votes of confidence, but I don’t think they’re out of the running for a quarterback. The language here is interesting — ONLY these two quarterbacks are in play. I truly have no idea what the Falcons are going to do, but perhaps they truly are honing in on a quarterback in the first round. That’s really the only position holding this team back from being the class of a weak division.
