The Falcons are set to take on the Saints in their season opener, but they strap it up against the Jets tonight in the team’s second preseason game. Unfortunately, Atlanta’s 2022 first-round pick, Drake London, will not be available for Arthur Smith in New York as he deals with a knee injury. However, the Falcons expect him to be healthy in time to face New Orleans, according to Jordan Schultz.
Drake London update: Source says
"Drake’s knee will be fine and there are no concerns with him being back soon.” 8th pick has had excellent camp, continues to increase knowledge of the offense. He's w/#Falcons in NY for #Jets' joint practices – plan is to rest/be ready to go Wk 1— Jordan Schultz (@Schultz_Report) August 20, 2022
Despite leaving the Lions preseason game early after suffering a knee injury, the Falcons rookie flashed the skills that made him the highest drafted receiver in the 2022 NFL Draft. On a simple drag route, London took a pass from Marcus Mariota 24 yards before being tackled out of bounds.
The hit didn’t look gruesome; London just landed on his knee. Fortunately, we found out the knee injury was only minor the following day. And now, Schultz has confirmed that London should be ready for the season opener.
Unfortunately, London is missing valuable practice time. He didn’t participate in any of the Falcons’ joint practices with the Jets and could miss the rest of the preseason. Wide receivers always need time to adjust to the speed and importance of timing in the NFL, so this does not bode well for the Falcons’ offense against the Saints in Week 1.
