The Falcons released their first depth chart on Monday. There weren’t many surprises, but we were waiting to see who would be named the Week 1 starter at left guard.
For now, that title belongs to James Carpenter, who began last season as the starting left guard. However, Dan Quinn doesn’t consider his spot to be solidified by any means. He told the media today that he expects Carpenter and Hennessy to receive reps early in the season.
Dan Quinn said James Carpenter and Matt Hennessy will both get reps at left guard going into the season. Wouldn't update Hennessy's status off the knee injury. Carpenter listed as starter.

Nothing was announced, but it looked as if Hennessy was in the lead for the starting job before suffering a knee injury late in training camp.
It’s understandable for the Falcons not to rush a rookie that isn’t 100% into action. However, I wouldn’t be shocked if we saw Hennessy in the first half against Seattle, assuming he is healthy. With there being no preseason, it appears as if the competition between Carpenter and Hennessy for the left guard spot remains wide open. Hopefully, one of them will prove to be a significant upgrade over what the Falcons got out of the position in 2019.
