The Falcons made Chris Lindstrom the highest-paid guard in the league earlier this week, but it’s more than just that. Jason Fitzgerald of Over The Cap says it sets new marks in a number of different categories.
Chris Lindstrom's contract is a big one. Sets new marks for APY, guarantees, new guarantees, front end cash, and so on. Should be great for guards. #Falconshttps://t.co/8EvGepNRS9

“Chris Lindstrom signed a five year contract extension with the Falcons worth $105.2 million. Lindstrom received $62.7 million in guarantees. The full guarantee at signing is worth $48.2 million. The full guarantee consists of a $27.5 million signing bonus, 2023 salary and roster bonus, and his 2024 base salary. There are roster bonuses that are due on the 5th day of the league year in 2027 and 2028. The extension increased Lindstrom’s 2023 salary cap number by $500,000.”
Per Over the Cap, Lindstrom’s cap hits will be just north of $13.7 million for 2023, then $18 million for 2024, $20 million for 2025, $21.5 million for 2026, $23.25 million for 2027 and $19.25 million for 2028.
The dead cap hits of cutting Lindstrom don’t become palatable until 2026, when it’ll cost the team $11 million in dead money, which will be his age-29 season. In 2027, as he approaches 30 years old, Lindstrom can be cut for only $5.5 million in dead money.
The Falcons have a significant portion of their salary cap tied up in Chris Lindstrom, but it couldn’t have gone to a more deserving individual. He exudes the character the new regime is trying to promote within its building. He’s a Walter Payton Man of the Year candidate and an All-Pro; congratulations again to Chris Lindstrom and the Falcons!
