Although it sounds like a character from the movie Goodfellas, Dom Maggio is a punter and the latest signing by Terry Fontenot.

This move shouldn’t come as a surprise because Sterling Hofrichter needs competition. He was dead last in the league in average yards per punt, fifth to last in punts inside the 20-yard line (of punters with 45 or more attempts), and eighth to last in net yards per punt. The last statistic is more of a special teams problem, but you get the point.
Maggio came out of college the same year as Hofrichter, but the former Wake Forest Demon Deacon signed with the Baltimore Ravens following the 2020 NFL draft. Released by the team on August 1st, he might not be the highlight signing fans are dreaming of, but Fontenot is staying true to his word of adding competition to every position.
Maggio played 52 games in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where he finished as one the best punters in school history — 291 punts for 12,703 yards. He also recorded over 100 punts inside the 20 and finished his collegiate career averaging 43.7 yards per attempt — third in school history. Maggio was named second-team All-ACC and nominated for the Ray Guy Award in 2019.
