The Falcons are reporting to training camp as I write this, but yesterday, the club dipped back into the free agent market, bolstering the offensive line. According to a report from Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Falcons inked veteran offensive tackle Julien Davenport to a deal.
The #Falcons add some depth before camp, signing veteran OT Julién Davenport, source said. He’s played for six NFL, most recently the #Giants, and also the San Antonio Brahmas of the UFL.

The 29-year-old has made 32 starts since being selected by the Texans in the fourth round of the 2017 draft. Including Houston, Davenport has played for six different NFL teams, last appearing in a regular season game in 2021 for the Colts, while also appearing in the UFL for the San Antonio Brahmas.
The Falcons, like every other NFL club, can always use quality offensive linemen, but I just can’t help but be bothered. Terry Fontenot is very obviously still keeping an eye on the free agent market, i.e., the Davenport signing, but Atlanta’s GM refuses to acknowledge the obvious deficiencies on the defensive side of the ball.
The Falcons’ secondary has, at best, no depth, and at worst, no proven starters next to Jessie Bates and A.J. Terrell. The edge unit is relying on players who haven’t even sniffed double-digit sacks too.
Those are obvious areas to me that need to be upgraded. Hopefully, they still are before the start of the season.
