Falcons bolster trenches with free agent signing

The Falcons made an interesting signing earlier today, announcing a deal with free agent offensive tackle Brandon Parker to bolster the trenches.

Since the Falcons only had 52 players on their active roster, there won’t be a corresponding move, and Parker joins the 53-man roster immediately.

Originally drafted by the Raiders in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft, Parker appeared in at least 11 games across the first four seasons of his career before ending up on the injured reserve in 2022. He did return last year, appearing in five games. In total, Parker has started 33 games and appeared in 59.

Parker hit free agency this offseason and inked a deal with the 49ers but was unable to make the final 53-man roster, despite remaining in San Francisco all of training camp.

This doesn’t mean much of anything other than a depth signing unless there’s been an undisclosed injury. Kaleb McGary had a rough go of it on Sunday, but so would most tackles going against T.J. Watt, who could very well win Defensive Player of the Year.
