Falcons bolster secondary with latest free agent signing

NFL: NOV 24 Chiefs at Panthers

The Falcons have made a free agent signing, bolstering the secondary. According to Tom Pelissero, the club has inked Jordan Fuller to a deal.

This makes a lot of sense for Fuller and the Falcons. The 27-year-old has started 55 games over five seasons with two teams, the Rams and the Panthers. In Los Angeles, Fuller played under Morris for three seasons from 2021 to 2023 when he was the Rams defensive coordinator.

He was a contributor for the Rams during their Super Bowl run in 2021. In those four seasons in LA, Fuller started 48 games, logging 279 tackles, 17 pass defenses, seven interceptions, and four forced fumbles.

The connection is there, but this signing tells me something. Raheem Morris’ has a vision for what he wants the defense to look like, and either he let Jimmy Lake have too much free rein or Lake poorly executed that vision. The Fuller signing tells me Morris is going to keep his thumb on the defense.

The main issue I have with this signing is Fuller’s health. Despite only being 27 years old, the safety has struggled with hamstring injuries. He missed significant time in 2022 and last season because of those issues.

Fuller signed a one-year deal with the Panthers last offseason, but a hamstring injury limited him to just nine starts and a stint on injured reserve. More than anything, familiarity and the cost of the contract made this deal come to fruition. I’m not sure it’s worth getting hyped about, though.
