The Falcons are expected to add to the defense in next month’s NFL Draft, with many Atlanta fans hopeful it will finally be a pass rusher.
It’s been the longest-standing issue for the defense, and with no obvious needs on the offensive side of the ball, it’s a certainty the Falcons’ first-round pick will be a defender. But we can’t say with certainty that defender will be a pass rusher.
One prospect, in particular, has been a favorite of Falcons fans, but one beat writer close to the team questions the link to this polarizing prospect. The prospect is Mike Green out of Marshall, and the beat writer is D. Orlando Ledbetter, who doesn’t believe the Falcons will draft the pass rusher.
“At the NFL Scouting Combine, he said he left after being he was accused of sexual assault, an allegation that he denied, and he said he’s “done nothing wrong.” Green went on to say he’d been accused of sexual assault twice,” D Led wrote.
Green was suspended from Virginia in 2022 and later transferred to Marshall, but Green has been adamant that he was “never questioned or charged by authorities about either of the allegations.”
D Led’s primary reason for believing the Falcons won’t be interested in Mike Green is all of the talk about “ethos” around Flowery Branch. It’s a pretty good reason too.
The Falcons infamously passed over Jalen Carter — a prospect that many believed was talented enough to be the 1st overall pick but had off-the-field questions as well — in favor of Bijan Robinson, a prospect with a pristine record. Mind you, the Falcons had a record-breaking runner already on the roster in Tyler Allgeier.
Whether it’s Arthur Smith or Raheem Morris, the Falcons have emphasized the person as much as the player, so D Led certainly isn’t wrong to question the team’s potential interest in Mike Green.
