The Falcons weren’t alone in their pursuit of Matthew Judon. According to Jordan Schultz, the club beat out several other teams, including the Bears.

It is poetic that the Falcons beat out the Bears after losing to Chicago in the Montez Sweat sweepstakes.
If you remember, Terry Fontenot was in talks with the Commanders for Sweat to address the same area of weakness. Eventually, Fontenot lost out to Ryan Poles. Adam Peters preferred Chicago’s second-round pick over Atlanta’s, seemingly believing that the Falcons would finish with the better record than the Bears.
Though it’s not confirmed, I would assume a similar situation played out with Matthew Judon. The Bears likely offered a third-rounder, wouldn’t offer a second, and the Patriots preferred the Falcons’ third-round pick, believing that would be more valuable.
Nevertheless, it’s good to see the Falcons and Fontenot make a decisive move like this for Matthew Judon.
