The Falcons are writing the crash course on how to go from league-wide irrelevancy to wildly entertaining in just one offseason. Many teams have done it, most notably the Worst to First Rams. But Atlanta is doing it in a less conventional way than football fans have become accustomed to.
The Falcons are a ’90s-style team that runs the football regardless of the score or down and distance, while the defense forces timely turnovers despite giving up a ton of yards. Sitting at 3-3 might not seem that impressive from the outside, but for a team with incredibly low expectations, Atlanta is having a helluva season. Arthur Smith deserves the bulk of the credit, and Good Morning Football‘s Jason McCourty is giving him his due.

It’s not the first time this season that the national media has shown the Dirty Birds love, though.
I’ll keep saying it about the @AtlantaFalcons
If Mariota doesn’t turn the ball over they will give people absolute dog fights in Nov and Dec
-their run game is diverse as heck
-they have outrageous size on perimeter
-defense is creative— Dan Orlovsky (@danorlovsky7) October 3, 2022
Could the @AtlantaFalcons be this year's Bengals?@PSchrags: "I love this team!"#DirtyBirds pic.twitter.com/ci6eGURXm3

.@AtlantaFalcons rolled the #1 ranked defense in every category right out of town. It’s a new breed of Falcon Football and I love what I see. Arthur Smith with a vision. Only team in the NFC S with a W! #BaldysBreakdowns pic.twitter.com/FVa0hkJtcj

.@AtlantaFalcons @GradyJarrett is playing as well as any interior DL in the league. What a joy to watch on Monday mornings. #BaldysBreakdowns pic.twitter.com/VRKyquDtww

.@AtlantaFalcons @kylepitts__ big question for Pitts today; TD catch and great celebration or key block on an important run? Either way it’s great to be a Falcon today. Only team in the NFC S with a W! #BaldysBreakdowns pic.twitter.com/zxCxUzJx3U

Trust me, I could find a dozen more from well-respected media personalities giving the Falcons their due. Atlanta is winning in unconventional ways without a very reliable signal caller and less-than-ideal talent, but they continue to surprise me and the NFL world. They’ve been awesome to watch this year, and for the first time in many seasons, I’m excited to watch the Falcons.
