In somewhat shocking news, the Falcons have officially parted ways with Feleipe Franks, along with a few other players that went down with injuries yesterday during training camp practice, the team announced on Thursday.
We have made the following roster moves:
– Waived/injured Ikenna Enechukwu, Feleipe Franks, and Chris Blair
– Placed Ethan Greenidge on IR pic.twitter.com/OVquEazeEl— Atlanta Falcons (@AtlantaFalcons) August 3, 2023
Greenidge was first carted off the field, and then Enechukwu quickly followed. The latter was a long shot to make the final 53-man roster, but injuries are never good news regardless. The former, however, had an excellent chance of carving out a role as a reserve offensive lineman. I expect the Falcons to make a corresponding move to bring in a swing tackle.
On to the meat of the announcement… Feleipe Franks. To most fans, this means absolutely nothing, but for the Falcons faithful, it means everything. Franks caught on in Atlanta after going undrafted in 2021 as a Taysom Hill-esque player that contributed as a special teamer, quarterback, and tight end.
Somehow, he stuck around for two years, which I estimate was because of Arthur Smith’s fondness for him. I described it as shocking because Smith seemingly kept him around no matter what. Nevertheless, he offered virtually nothing as a football player other than being able to back up multiple positions.
He was reportedly dealing with a lower body injury during camp this week, which was confirmed by Jordan Schultz. “Source says Franks tore a tendon in his foot and will be out about three months. HC Arthur Smith and Atlanta’s offensive staff have high hopes for him.”
It seems Feleipe Franks isn’t done in Atlanta after all and head to the IR.
