The Falcons aren’t done adding players this offseason just yet. They’ll bring in even more firepower after June 1st when they receive the $10+ million for cutting Desmond Trufant but surprised us today with a small move, signing Deone Bucannon.
The #Falcons have agreed to terms with hybrid linebacker-safety Deone Bucannon. Adding more versatility to the defense and depth on defense. https://t.co/zQATPoTRG5

Bucannon is a 27-year-old that most recently played in 14 games for the Giants and Bucs last season. Before that, he spent five years with the Arizona Cardinals, starting 56 games, forcing seven fumbles, and coming up with two interceptions. Bucannon is a versatile piece that has played both safety and linebacker. Given the Falcons surplus at safety, I imagine he will mostly be used as a linebacker. But if Ricardo Allen and Keanu Neal find themselves on IR again, he’s a quality piece that can fill a role in the secondary as well.
