It’s being reported by ESPN’s Vaughn McClure that the Falcons are dealing with a significant injury just days before the opener against Russell Wilson and the Seahawks.

Source tells me Falcons CB Kendall Sheffield is in a walking boot. Exact injury unknown but should be more clear after practice. Wasn’t on the field for media viewing period. Falcons feel confident with Isaiah Oliver and rookie AJ Terrell as starters, Dennard at nickel.

Luckily, Darqueze Dennard is perfectly capable in the slot and was expected to start there regardless, but this should mean more action for Blidi Wreh-Wilson on Sunday. He’s a veteran that preformed admirably when called upon last season. You’d be hard-pressed to find a better fifth corner than Wreh-Wilson, but you can never have enough corners, and the Falcons secondary is thin enough as is. Sheffield showed a lot of promise last year, and it’s disappointing to see he probably won’t be active for Week 1. This could result in many more three-safety looks.
Marlon Davidson & Matt Hennessy were both at practice with knee braces in more positive injury news. We may not see much of Hennessy in Week 1, but Davidson should receive substantial snaps when Tyeler Davison is off the field on passing downs.
We’ll keep you posted with any more injury developments.
