Linebacker is an interesting position for the Falcons. They have young players, but it’s clear they need some talent at the position. It will be intriguing to see if the Falcons go big game hunting or continue to develop their young guys. With so much cap space to work with, I have a very specific name in mind. Previous editions are listed below:
- Falcons 2023 Offseason: One Free Agent, One Draft Pick, One Trade — Quarterback
- Falcons 2023 Offseason: One Free Agent, One Draft Pick, One Trade — Running Backs
- Falcons 2023 Offseason: One Free Agent, One Draft Pick, One Trade — Wide Receivers
- Falcons 2023 Offseason: One Free Agent, One Draft Pick, One Trade — Tight Ends
- Falcons 2023 Offseason: One Free Agent, One Draft Pick, One Trade — Offensive Line
- Falcons 2023 Offseason: One Free Agent, One Draft Pick, One Trade — Edge Rushers
One Free Agent: Roquan Smith
Roquan Smith will be looking for a big contract, and the Falcons are going to be one of the teams with the money and the need to ink him to one. Smith is one of the best linebackers in all of football — full stop. He makes plays all over the field as a run defender and in the pass game. He doesn’t play a premium position, but the Falcons would be adding a damn good football player.
One Draft Pick: Trenton Simpson
We’ve seen talented linebackers get picked lower and lower in the draft as the position loses value. Perhaps the Falcons could snag a talented player like Simpson in the second round. Simpson is fantastic in coverage, only allowing 18 catches and 144 yards on the season. He is a freak athlete that plays all over the field for Clemson, and he’s the perfect type of WILL the Falcons need in the passing game.
One Trade: Alex Singleton
How about pairing a former Montana State star with another? Singleton was drafted in 2015 but is having a breakout year with the Broncos, so pairing him with Troy Andersen could be a fun storyline. The Broncos need to recoup some draft capital after sending away a boatload of it for Russell Wilson. Singleton shouldn’t be that expensive, and he has been fantastic against the run and in coverage. He’s the type of versatile piece the Falcons should covet at the position if they do make a trade.
