Cornerback is a very interesting position for the Falcons going into 2023 (I know I have opened with this a lot, but it’s true). The draft is chock full of corners I love; it was hard to choose just one. Cornerbacks can be difficult to trade for, and the free agent market is iffy. I still think no matter what, the Falcons should bring back Isaiah Oliver and continue developing Darren Hall. However, that’s the fun of this exercise, so we’ll do our best. One Free Agent: Jamel Dean
I’m not sure if the Falcons will spend big money on a second corner alongside AJ Terrell, but Dean is the type of player worth dishing out the money for. Dean was part of a tenacious Tampa Bay defense that won the Super Bowl, and he’s one of the best man corners in the entire NFL. Pairing him with Terrell would give the Falcons one of the best duos in the entire NFL. Pat Pete is having a great renaissance year, so I wouldn’t be mad about snagging him either.
One Draft Pick: Joey Porter Jr.
The son of Steelers legend Joey Porter significantly impacted the Nittany Lions’ defense in 2022. Porter is a lengthy and imposing corner at 6’2 and 200 pounds, but his nose for the football may be what’s most impressive. JPJ is constantly around the football, breaking up passes, and he’s a player you can move all around the secondary to support against the run. Porter is definitely a defensive piece that you can build around, especially when paired with AJ Terrell.
One Trade: Greedy Williams
According to Sports Illustrated, the Browns were fielding calls for Greedy Williams at the deadline. With Martin Emerson, Denzel Ward, and Greg Newsome in the fold — Williams is expendable for the Browns. The former LSU Tiger makes a lot of sense for the Falcons as a buy-low project, or solid depth at worst.
