Atlanta Falcons fans are going to have to watch Julio Jones play against them twice in 2022 while playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and catching passes from Tom Brady. The seven-time Pro Bowler has signed a one-year deal with the Bucs, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Almost all Falcons fans were caught off guard when Jones forced his way out of Atlanta last spring; the new regime was left to pick up the pieces and salvage what they could — netting second and fourth-round picks from the Titans. However, it didn’t work out for Tennessee, who could not advance in the playoffs this year (similarly to the previous postseason), losing at home after their first-round bye.
Jones struggled to stay healthy and finished with the worst statistical production of his career — totaling 31 receptions for 434 yards and only one touchdown. Those numbers are even worse than his 2013 campaign when he only played in five games. The Falcons absolutely fleeced the Titans in hindsight, even if it wasn’t their decision.
Julio may get the final laugh, though. With Brady in Tampa, he has a genuine shot at a Super Bowl in 2022. This is a divisive moment for Falcons fans. Many will feel betrayed yet again, while others will understand the motivation behind the decision — to finally win a Super Bowl.
I understand Jones’ thought process and don’t knock him for it one bit. It’s incredibly ironic, though. Julio Jones, who was denied a ring by Tom Brady, will now try to win one in his twilight years with the GOAT.
