ESPN’s prediction for Falcons offseason sends Kyle Pitts to Chicago

NFL: SEP 17 Packers at Falcons

The Falcons have quite the eventful offseason ahead of them.

Arthur Blank and Rich McKay are leading the search for a new head coach, and whoever that man is will join Terry Fontenot in the search for a new quarterback.

Bill Belichick has been the candidate most linked to Atlanta, and it makes sense because it’s been said that Arthur Blank has been enamored with “The Patriot Way” in Foxborough. It wouldn’t be my first choice, but I don’t own the Falcons. If Blank’s sights are set on Belichick, I imagine that’s who will be in the building next.

On the other side of things, the club still needs a quarterback, regardless of the head coach. Now, the type of signal caller might depend on who the coach is, but there will be a new quarterback under center in 2024.

The Falcons could trade up in the draft, trade for a veteran, or dip into the free agent market. Some could headline the offseason while others are bridge options.

ESPN’s Aaron Schatz believes it will be of the blockbuster variety, predicting the Falcons will send Kyle Pitts to Chicago in a package that will return Justin Fields to Atlanta.

Big prediction for theoffseason: The Falcons will use Pitts as part of a package to pry quarterback Justin Fields away from the Bears before Chicago uses the No. 1 overall pick on a new starting quarterback. — Schatz

If Justin Fields is the Falcons offseason target, I imagine it’ll be a draft pick-centric package sent to the Bears, not player-based. The Falcons don’t need to part ways with pillars of the roster unless it’s for one of Caleb Williams or Drake Maye.

The demand for Justin Fields may drive the price up, but the Falcons better be weary of getting into a bidding war for a guy who hasn’t developed fast enough for his own club to keep him.

Fields is an intriguing player with a sky high ceiling if he’s under the right mentor; I’m just not keen on sending picks and players. That’s far too high of a price.
