The Falcons improved their defense more yesterday in one move than the entire offseason combined when they agreed to a trade that will send Matthew Judon to Atlanta in exchange for a third-round pick. Yes, he’s a 32-year-old coming off a season-ending injury, and yet, Judon is still easily the best pass rusher the Falcons have had since John Abraham.
It greatly improves the defense, but there are still areas of concern. A cornerback and safety would go a long way in the Falcons’ hopes of returning to and competing in the playoffs.
With DeMarrco Hellams on the pine for an unknown amount of time, the Falcons brought Justin Simmons in for a visit. Regarded as one of the best safeties in football over the last few years, Simmons would join Jessie Bates III and create the best safety duo in the league.
The Falcons likely don’t want to create the cap space necessary to outbid everyone for Simmons’ services, but the visit still went smoothly, with A.J. Terrell and Grady Jarrett joining the All-Pro for dinner, according to Aaron Wilson.
#Falcons visit went smoothly all-around with veteran safety Justin Simmons, including a dinner with corner A.J. Terrell and defensive lineman Grady Jarrett, per league sources @KPRC2

The Falcons clearly were putting their best foot forward in their recruitment of Justin Simmons. With several other clubs interested in the free agent, the Falcons will need to be convincing in ways other than dollars and cents.
