Desmond Ridder‘s Falcons career has been a bag of mixed results.
He makes some head-scratching decisions but has shown resilience at multiple moments; both on display against the Packers.
He made a pair of terrible decisions that were thankfully dropped by Green Bay defenders, one of which was likely going to be a pick-six by Jaire Alexander. However, when the clock turned to the fourth quarter, we saw a completely different quarterback.
Desmond Ridder completed six of eight pass attempts in the final quarter of Sunday’s contest, leading the Falcons to a 12-point comeback. There was a ton of fight in this team. Of course, Ridder did his thing, but Ryan Nielsen’s group did its part as well.
Jordan Love got the ball back with about a minute to go and needed a field goal to win the game. The Falcons defense forced a four-and-out. Arthur Smith’s club has won two games in an ugly fashion, but this team isn’t apologizing for the fashion in which they won.
Through two games, Atlanta is 2-0 and won in two very different ways. Typically, the Falcons would be up 12 points and surrender the lead. This isn’t your father’s Atlanta Falcons. Desmond Ridder told reporters this team is never down for the count.
The jury is still out on Ridder, but he’s certainly proving doubters wrong in more ways than one. Atlanta has another tough test in Week 3 as the club travels to Detroit to take on the Lions, who are a similarly gritty ball club.
