The Georgia Bulldogs season ended in disappointing fashion, losing 23-10 in the Sugar Bowl just three days ago, but there’s no time to rest for Kirby Smart and rest of the coaching staff. The road to the 2026 National Championship begins right now, especially in this new college football world. Not only do coaches these days have to bring in new talent, but they also have to convince their own guys to stay in the program, and that part begins today with the next transfer portal window looming.
“I think you’re going to have 25 plus portal additions,” Former Georgia Bulldogs star David Pollack said. “I think people are going to jump in the portal because that’s the world we live in.”
“I would be shocked if you don’t get to 30. I think you’ll get to 35 like that is the kind of action you’ll get in the portal,” Pollack continued.
So far, nine Bulldogs have already hit the transfer portal, and he’s right, at least 10-20 more will join them. It’s a new era of college football, and that was on full display during this year’s Sugar Bowl against Notre Dame. The days of the top teams in the SEC having five stars playing special teams and waiting for their opportunity are over. If they don’t feel like they will have the chance to play, they’ll transfer to a team like Notre Dame and see the Dawgs on the other side.
Attrition is natural in all sports, but it’s becoming most evident in this new era of college football. Very rarely do athletes stick it out in the same place, so it will be up to Kirby Smart to determine which players on the current roster are worth the resources needed to keep them in Athens.
