The Falcons haven’t had sustained success on the offensive side of the ball at all this season. There’s been far more bad than good, but there’s one player, in particular, that shows up on fans’ TVs every Sunday — Darnell Mooney.
The offseason free agent signing was considered an overpay by many, but he is the most productive offensive piece for Atlanta through four games.
Despite garnering seven fewer targets than Drake London, Mooney is the Falcons leading reciever with 225 yards. Dan Orlovsky believes he’s been the best offensive player for the Falcons right now.

Mooney ranks tied for fifth in the league with eight plays of 15+ yards behind Nico Collins, Jayden Reed, Malik Nabers, and Jauan Jennings. He was critical in the Falcons pair of victories.
His touchdown against the Eagles at the end of the third quarter propelled Kirk Cousins and Atlanta’s offense to an improbable comeback win. Mooney also drew the pass interference penalty against the Saints that eventually set up the game-winning Younghoe Koo field goal.
While Drake London has recorded more touchdowns and receptions than him, Darnell Mooney has been instrumental in the little success the Falcons offense has had in 2024.
