Reigning NBA Head Coach of the Year Mike Budenholzer might have to face disciplinary consequences for an incident that occurred nearly two years ago. His case will be heard on July 29 as Budenholzer faces misdemeanor charges of driving under the influence back from August 28, 2013. Budenholzer faces up to a year in jail, a possible driver’s license suspension, and community service for a first-time offender. As a first time offender, I would add that jail time is highly unlikely. Not only is he facing discipline from the court system, but he could be facing trouble with the NBA. Jason Kidd dealt with the same incident over a year ago, and he was suspended the first two games of the 2013 season. Even though Coach Budenholzer has kept his nose clean since his DUI incident, I could see a two-game suspension looming for Atlanta’s head coach.
