The Braves 2020 fifth-round pick Bryce Elder had a sensational performance down on the farm a few days ago. Elder’s outing began with 6 1/3 no-hit innings, and he finished allowing just two hits in eight innings in a 2-0 win over Louisville.

The 23-year-old had an incredible outing, but it ended a relatively horrid month.
Elder surrendered six runs in two of his previous three starts before the gem on Monday, including 17 runs in 22 innings, good for a 6.95 ERA across four appearances. Those are unsightly numbers, but the peripherals suggest he’s been a bit unlucky. Elder boasts a 0.97 WHIP with 33 strikeouts in 30 innings for Gwinnett, limiting opponents to a .178 batting average.
Prior to being optioned to Triple-A on May 1, Elder appeared in four games with the Braves, making his debut against the Nationals on April 12. Over those four starts, Elder finished with a respectable 4.74 ERA.
The young man needs more time on the farm before being called back up to Atlanta. Thankfully, the Braves don’t need him right now, and they might not need him again all season. Spencer Strider has stepped into the fifth spot of the rotation, and there’s a chance he never relinquishes it. Mike Soroka could also be on his way back after the All-Star break, giving the Braves yet another option with high upside to put in their rotation.
