Could a Justin Simmons free agent signing be coming down the pike for Falcons?

NFL: OCT 12 Broncos at Chiefs

The Falcons have watched two players go down with season-ending injuries over the last week or so in Rondale Moore and Bralen Trice, while DeMarrco Hellams suffered his own significant injury.

In the wake of those injuries, the Falcons have made minor roster moves. They certainly aren’t enough to fix the holes that are littered throughout the defense, but they are hosting Justin Simmons on a free agent visit, who could replace Hellams and potentially even Richie Grant.

Frankly, I’m not sure why it’s taken until the second week of August to get a player of Justin Simmons’ quality into the building for a workout.

He’s been named a second-team All-Pro four times in the last five years and is only 30 years old. He’s coming off a campaign in which he recorded 70 tackles and three interceptions across 15 games. The veteran has started the last 108 games he’s played and would provide the Falcons defense with an experienced player.

The Falcons’ safety unit was questionable even before the Hellams injury. Every fan has been clamoring for a free agent signing, with Justin Simmons being the dream.

Simmons and Jessie Bates would prove to be one of the best safety duos in the league. I have no idea how Simmons is still on the open market. The Falcons, along with most other clubs, would benefit greatly from a player of Simmons’ caliber.

Along with Simmons, the Falcons could use a free agent pass rusher as well to replace Bralen Trice, but beggars can’t be choosers.
