To the surprise of nobody, Chris Sale has officially been named the Braves Opening Day starter when the team takes the field on March 27th in San Diego against the Padres.Â
It will be a fun test for the reining Cy Young award winner to kick off the year, as the Braves hope to get a little revenge on the team that knocked them out of the playoffs a year ago. However, that was a much different looking Atlanta team. The Braves are much healthier than they were six months ago, including Sale, who was unavailable to pitch in the postseason because of late season back spasms that cost him the final few weeks.
Sale led the league last year in seemingly every category — wins, strikeouts, ERA, FIP, K/9, HR/9 — making 29 starts for the Braves, the most he’s made since 2017.
