There might not be a more polarizing figure in the NFL than Taylor Swift right now.
The superstar singer and songwriter has taken the league by storm. Her relationship with Travis Kelce is either the worst thing or the best thing in the world, depending on who you ask.
If he were alive, my dad would be complaining about TV crews constantly showing Swift between plays. A lot of his generation feels the same. However, a lot of younger people and more tolerable older fans don’t mind it at all.
Let’s just consider for a second that you and I were in charge of the business facet of the NFL. Our paychecks depended on our value. We all collectively agree that showing Taylor Swift is good for business because she’s practically her own economy.
There has never been a person, event, or place to have the kind of financial impact that Swift has had on the NFL. She’s brought more fans to the league’s doorstep than anyone or anything ever has. Of course, the people in charge are going to milk it.
The Super Bowl has officially been dubbed the Taylor Swift Super Bowl (by me), and everyone is talking about it. CBS had their own fun, exploring each franchise’s most famous supporter.Â
Atlanta has a lot of well known figures, including musicians, activists, and entrepreneurs. CBS had three names — actor Samuel L. Jackson, singer Usher, and former President Jimmy Carter — as the most recognizable Falcons fans.
Depending on who you ask, each Falcons fan would have a different answer. If you ask someone from the late 70s and early 80s, the answer is easy — Carter. He was literally the most famous man in the world at one point, President of the most powerful country in the world.
Today, that wouldn’t be the case. Jackson was the face of the Falcons during their height in 2016, as the key voice of the ‘Rise Up’ campaign. But he’s not really around much anymore. Usher is actually performing at this year’s Super Bowl, so he’s certainly got a case too.
None even hold a candle to Taylor Swift. She’s as big as the Beatles, Michael Jackson, Elvis, etc. Considering we are in the age of social media, there’s an argument to be had that she’s the most well known person ever.
Her impact on the NFL has been profound.
