The Buccaneers fell at home to the Ravens on Monday Night Football, but it wasn’t the only thing they lost. With the Falcons looming in Week 8, the Bucs will be without Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.
Evans entered Week 7 with a hamstring injury and reaggravated it early in the game. He winced in pain and didn’t return, leading me to believe that he wouldn’t only be out for this week but multiple weeks with a possible IR stint in his future.
Godwin, on the other hand, suffered a gruesome ankle injury late in the game, leading some to question whether he should’ve been in the game entirely. Godwin will certainly be out for the rest of the season following surgery, I’m sure.
For the Falcons, they’re coming off an important loss. The Seahawks dismantled Atlanta at home, beating them in all three phases, proving Raheem Morris’ team isn’t as good as they think. I thought it was an important loss because it was painful but not detrimental to the club’s ultimate goal.
It’s the kind of lesson that you hope the Falcons learn from before making the same mistake later in the season. This week, they’ll travel to Tampa Bay to take on the Bucs for a lead in the NFC South.
Week 8 is never a do-or-die situation, but if the Falcons don’t win, there’s no guarantee they will control their own destiny in the division. If the Falcons take care of business this Sunday, they’ll take a stranglehold of the division with a perfect 4-0 record against NFC South opponents and a 5-3 overall record.
