Before the game on Friday night, Brian Snitker provided insight on two of the Braves injured pitchers–Max Fried and Dylan Lee. Not much has changed. Neither of them have started to throw off the mound yet, but he did say something I found interesting in that he believes Max Fried will be ready to go before Dylan Lee.
Fried has been on the IL since early May and was recently moved to the 60-day IL with a forearm strain. There is no damage to the UCL, so the Braves are confident he will be able to return, but they are rightfully taking things extremely cautiously with the ace of their staff. The earliest he can return to the majors in July 5th, but it seems possible we see him activated for a rehab start before then.
Lee hit the IL with shoulder inflammation, which is never a good thing. Kyle Wright began the season on the IL with the same injury after rehabbing for most of the offseason. Then he found himself on the IL again after it flared up when he returned. Shoulder injuries can be worse than Tommy John. They have a tendency to linger, and even if they don’t, pitchers sometimes never look the same when they come back. Hopefully, both Lee and Wright can return this season, but I’m much more worried about them than I am Fried.
