The two biggest talking points coming out of a Week 4 victory over the Saints had nothing to do with the win for the Falcons. It surrounded Kyle Pitts’ zero catch performance, and Tyler Allgeier outperforming Bijan Robinson.
The former has been a conversation for quite some time, and though the offense still has some things to work out between Kirk Cousins and Zac Robinson, Pitts hasn’t helped himself much at all. There’s blame to go around for all parties.
Last week, Robinson was held in check by the Saints defense, carrying the ball seven times for 28 yards, averaging 4.0 yards per carry compared to Allgeier’s 60 yards on eight carries, good for a 7.5 average.
It’s not only Falcons fans wondering if the fifth-round pick is a better runner of the football than the first-round pick. Brian Baldinger is questioning the same thing.
.@AtlantaFalcons @tylerallgeier25 has 27 runs averaging 6.1 yards/carry. He also has 0 negative runs. He sets up his blockers and finishes runs strong. Is he RB1 in the ATL? #BaldysBreakdowns pic.twitter.com/6JlbEnyrWB

Granted, Robinson regularly draws more loaded boxes than his counterpart. What that means is the Falcons hand the ball off to Robinson with seven or eight players in the tackle box more often than Allgeier.
With that being said, it’s impossible to argue that Robinson should be getting a bulk of the carries. Allgeier deserves his share, and if that’s the case, the Falcons used a top 10 draft pick on a running back splitting carries. That’s a terrible use of resources.
Terry Fontenot’s tenure will not be looked back upon fondly if trends continue.
