BREAKING: Georgia QB Carson Beck to enter transfer portal

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: OCT 29 Florida vs Georgia

In a shocking turn of events, Pete Nakos from ON3 Sports is reporting that Georgia starting quarterback Carson Beck will not be declaring for the NFL Draft and will instead enter the transfer portal.

Georgia quarterback Carson Beck is expected to enter the transfer portal, multiple sources tell On3. The two-time national champion immediately becomes the top quarterback in the transfer portal. Beck previously announced his plans to enter the 2025 NFL draft but will instead enter college football’s free agency,” Nakos writes.

Carson Beck’s initial decision to declare for the NFL Draft was met with some criticism, particularly from former ESPN draft analyst Todd McShay.

“Carson Beck made a bad decision to leave early. I texted a bunch of guys in the league, GMs, former GMs, scouts. One Scout wrote back to me, one word answer — ‘foolish,’”

After an underwhelming season in which Beck threw for 500 fewer yards and doubled his interception total from 6 to 12, it became hard to project his draft stock, especially after he tore his UCL in the SEC Championship game, which ended his season. Once thought to be a candidate for the top pick in the draft, at best, he would have been a fringe first-round draft pick this year, and it looks like the reviews he got from NFL scouts may have deterred him from going pro.

Now, Carson Beck will look for a new home in the transfer portal, where he will have no shortage of suitors. He’s still an incredibly talented quarterback with a wealth of experience playing in big games. He’ll land on his feet elsewhere and will probably end up making more money by staying in college this year than he would have in the NFL.
